Johnny Reid - November 24, 2010

Johnny Reid
November 24, 2010

As I sit here with my Tartan Army scarf on as well as my brand new Johnny Reid sweater, I think back about the amazing evening I had. It all started at 5:45 when I was waiting in line for my meet and greet with the Scotsman.

When it was my turn, I headed into the picture area and quickly handed Johnny the gift I brought for him. He looked at it. Then he looked and me and said ‘You really didn’t have to do that’. I replied, ‘I wanted to!’

Then suddenly to my surprise Mr. Reid approached me with open arms. After my heart skipped a beat or two, I, without thinking, opened my arms ready to be embraced by Mr. Johnny Reid. Never in my life did I think that would ever happen. After our picture was taken, he held my hand and thanked me once again. He told me to enjoy the show and I wished him a ‘Merry Christmas’. He in return wished me a ‘Merry Christmas’.

I gave him a Nova Scotia scarf, a few Christmas ornaments and a few of the photographs I’ve taken over the years. My cousin Corinne suggested I made them into note cards so he can send them to whomever he likes. Who knows where he’ll send them. That’s the awesome part about it!

From the moment Johnny stepped on that stage, I knew we were all in for an amazing show. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during his introduction for one of his newer songs he wrote for his grannie called, ‘Tell Me, Margaret’. As soon as he started talking I could see his facial expressions change and he did all he could to keep himself together. I could barely keep myself together. But he got through it and in return he was given a standing ovation.

As part of the show, he did 3 cover songs which were beyond amazing! Kris Kristofferson's 'Help Me Make it Through the Night', The Temptations' 'My Girl' and Simon And Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters'. All three have been stuck in my head since the concert.

Since this was a taping for a PBS special, we were lucky enough to have 5 songs done over again. I for one wasn’t about to complain. The more Johnny Reid I can get, the better. After the entire taping and redo’s were done, we were treated to two more songs before the night came to a close. ‘Ride Sally Ride’ and a Jim Reeves’ classic ‘Put Your Sweet Lips’.

Nearly 3 hours later and many, MANY hit songs it was time to call it a night. Johnny Reid puts on one of the best shows you’ll ever see.

Mr. Reid is an amazing man, father, husband, son, brother and grandson. I will forever be a fan and a proud member of the Tartan Army. He will forever be in my heart, my mind and my soul.

If I forgot to tell you… I hugged Johnny Reid.
